Staying on an outdated version of Kentico can put your website at risk - from security vulnerabilities and performance issues to unexpected downtime.
An upgrade ensures your site runs smoothly, remains secure and is ready to support future growth. Whether you’re moving from an older version of Kentico or planning your transition to Xperience by Kentico on .NET Core, we’re here to handle the process for you from start to finish.
Kentico upgrades can be complex, especially when moving between major versions. At Cold Banana, we’ve got experience handling everything from simple patch upgrades to full re-platforming projects. We’ll help you take a clear and confident path through your upgrade process, starting with planning.
We’ll assess your current setup, take time to understand your goals and define the best upgrade route for your specific situation. From there, we handle the technical side, rebuilding or refactoring code as required to align with the latest Kentico architecture. We take care of migrating your content and data cleanly and securely, ensuring nothing gets lost in the process. Before go-live, we carry out thorough testing and performance optimisation to ensure everything works exactly as it should.
We work as an extension of your team, whether that's with IT, marketing or stakeholders, ensuring that the upgrade supports your wider digital strategy.
We’ve spent over a decade upgrading Kentico websites across a wide range of industries and sizes, from lean marketing sites to enterprise-level platforms. We know the platform inside and out, from version 8 through to the latest Xperience by Kentico, so we are able to plan strategic approaches to every upgrade, balancing speed, stability and long-term value to ensure the best outcome for your business.
We pride ourselves on clear communication throughout the process, working closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to keep everything on track and transparent.
For those planning a move to Xperience by Kentico, upgrading opens the door to full .NET Core support and greater flexibility. Delaying your upgrade can increase technical debt and make the process more complex down the line, so taking action now is a smart move for long-term stability.
How long does it take to upgrade from v12 to 13?
The time it takes to upgrade from Kentico 12 to 13 can vary depending on the complexity of your site, but in general, it typically takes between 2 to 6 weeks.
This includes time for code updates, testing, data migration and deployment. If your website has custom modules, third-party integrations or large amounts of content, the process may take longer. At Cold Banana, we’ll carry out a full audit first and provide a clear, tailored timeline so you know exactly what to expect.
When does each Kentico version go to “end of life”?
Kentico 12 reached end of life at the end of 2023, which means it no longer receives security patches or official support. Kentico 13 (Xperience 13), released in October 2020, is supported until 2026 under Kentico’s Long-Term Support policy. If you’re on Kentico 12 or earlier, it’s recommended to upgrade as soon as possible to maintain security, performance and compatibility with modern technologies.
